Since its start in April, Malts and Mates has quickly become one of DEG Bayreuth e.V.’s most convivial regular events. What began as a simple idea – whisky enthusiasts gathering to share a dram or two – has grown into a welcoming circle where friendships are made, knowledge is exchanged, and remarkable bottles are opened.

The second meeting, held on 26 July, brought together five whisky lovers, each bringing a bottle from their personal collection. In true Malts and Mates spirit, these treasures were opened, poured, and enjoyed by all. By the end of the evening, seven different whiskys had been tasted – from smooth and gentle Highland malts to peaty, smoky Islay drams – each accompanied by stories, tasting notes, and more than a little good-natured debate about which was best.

It’s not just about the whisky, of course. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and newcomers are always made to feel welcome – whether you’re a seasoned connoisseur or simply curious to learn more.
