Not even heavy rain earlier in the day could dampen the spirits of the Deutsch-Englische Gesellschaft Bayreuth e.V. On 18 July, around 20 members and guests gathered at the municipal BBQ site for the DEG’s annual summer barbecue, which this year embraced a vibrant Jamaican theme.
Those who decided not to be discouraged by the gloomy forecast were rewarded with dry skies, pleasantly mild temperatures and a relaxed summer atmosphere. Reggae music filled the air throughout the afternoon, providing the perfect soundtrack for an event inspired by the warmth and laid-back spirit of the Caribbean.
Everyone brought along their favourite food to grill, while a colourful buffet of homemade salads and side dishes, shared by all participants, quickly became the centrepiece of the afternoon. To complete the Jamaican experience, guests enjoyed a refreshing Jamaican Rum Punch, adding an authentic Caribbean touch to the event.
Throughout the afternoon, members and newcomers alike enjoyed lively conversations, good food and plenty of laughter. The Jamaican BBQ once again demonstrated what makes DEG events so special: bringing together people of different backgrounds through a shared interest in the English-speaking world and creating a welcoming atmosphere where new friendships can flourish.
The annual BBQ has become one of the Society’s most popular summer traditions, and this year’s Jamaican edition proved to be another memorable success.
One Love – until next summer! 🇯🇲
