Malts and Mates: Sharing a Malt, Finding New Mates

The Deutsch-Englische Gesellschaft Bayreuth e.V. (DEG) once again proved that good company and good whisky make the perfect mix. At the latest “Malts and Mates” evening in the Bürgerbegegnungsstätte in Bayreuth, a small but spirited group — five gentlemen and one lady — came together to explore, taste, and talk all things whisky.

In true Malts and Mates fashion, the evening was all about sharing a malt and finding new mates. Participants tasted their way through eleven different whiskies, comparing flavours, swapping stories, and enjoying plenty of friendly debate about which dram came out on top. Whether smoky or smooth, Scottish or beyond, every glass had its own character — and every taster had a story to match.

The atmosphere was relaxed, cheerful, and full of laughter. While the focus was on whisky, English conversation flowed just as freely. The mix of language practice, cultural curiosity, and genuine camaraderie is exactly what makes Malts and Mates special.

Established by the DEG in 2025, the event series takes place quarterly and has quickly become a highlight in the society’s calendar. It’s a chance to meet new people, practise English in a laid-back setting, and discover something new — one sip at a time.

The next Malts and Mates evening is already in planning for early 2026. So, if you enjoy good company and an even better malt, come along — after all, that’s what Malts and Mates is all about!
